Availble are a set of two original works by Dutch artist Jennifer Tee (1973), based in Amsterdam. Her oeuvre comprises sculpture, installation, performance and collage. Jennifer Tee ao researches contemporary life, with its cross-cultural identity and narratives, its instability and complexity, and its potential for the loss of identity, language, and relation to original cultures. With her work, she encourages the contemplation of life's fragile connections, evoking spiritual realms with active material experimentation. The works on offer are part of her celebrated Tampan Tulip series, existing of collages of pressed tulip petals with motifs deriving from Tampan weavings that can be found in the Lampung region of Sumatra (Indonesia), a historically important trade route and crossroad of cultures and traditions. The square woven Tampan cloths used to be exchanged during important rites of passage. Their motifs often feature ships with masts branching out to trees of life, and animals and plant like forms , evoking human souls moving on to new lives. The works thus refer to diasporic stories, migration and ancestral connections. Topics that are of specific interest to the artist. Jennifer Tee has taken up various international residencies , and her work has been exhibited in national and international gallery and museum exhibitions.
